Trib Total Media announces new publishing schedule for 2022

Trib Total Media is adopting a new publishing schedule for 2022.  The Tribune-Review will not publish on the following days:

  • Memorial Day – Monday, May 30, 2022
  • 4th of July – Monday, July 4, 2022
  • Labor Day – Monday, September 5, 2022
  • Thanksgiving – Thursday, November 24, 2022
  • Christmas – Sunday, December 25, 2022
  • New Year’s Day – Sunday, January 1, 2023

“Cutting holiday production is not new to the industry,” said Jennifer Bertetto, Trib Total Media President & CEO. “We are joining a growing list of newspapers, including USA Today and The Wall Street Journal, that observe certain holidays.”

This production change will enable Trib Total Media to reduce expenses without sacrificing revenue.

“Holiday editions traditionally have lower revenue from an advertising perspective,” said Trib Total Media Chief Revenue Officer Matt Miller. “We can publish advertisements for our partners on the days immediately before and after the holiday without negatively impacting their reach.”

Consumer needs and expectations have changed over the years as well. As a result, Trib Total Media has seen a drop in single-copy sales on holidays. Many consumers do not follow their regular routine and an increasing number of stores are now closed on holidays which limits the availability of single-copy newspapers.

“The demand just isn’t there,” said Dave Fellabaum, Trib Total Media Executive Director of Information Systems and Circulation.  “On an average day, we get about 200 calls from customers.  On holidays we are averaging less than 50 calls, with some holidays getting less than 20.”

This production change will also limit the number of employees who have to work on holidays. However, content on TribLIVE.com will be updated as news merits. Publication and delivery will resume the day following the holiday.
